When I started as an advisor in 2001 and I found that many of the clients that I was assigned to look after were disappointed in the investment and insurance products they had purchased from previous advisors.

The products sold largely benefited the agent and the insurance company, and to a lesser extent, the clients. They thought they were entering into an advisory relationship, when in reality it was a sales relationship.

The lesson was clear, to be an advisor, you have to first focus on the client’s objectives. My approach, and that of like-minded advisors that I have worked with, has been to focus on the planning first and to recommend products and strategies that align with the clients objectives.

The compliance and administration of selling those products eats away at time that should be spent with clients, focusing on solving their estate planning and succession planning objectives. In November of 2022, I became a fee only advisor.

Experience FCC serves families and family businesses and has no obligation to any financial institution. We do not sell financial products.

Through detailed discovery and analysis, we determine the family objectives and find the right financial strategies to implement. We then interface with other advisors required to implement those strategies to meet our clients’ succession planning and estate planning objectives.

We guide family businesses through the difficult work required to create the basis for lasting family harmony.

In my spare time, I enjoy getting out into nature with my wife and two boys. I coach both boys in hockey and soccer and love fishing and golfing.
